The Problem
A System That Leaves Students Behind

"The issue isn't that students aren't willing to learn. The issue is that many of them are trying to succeed without the tools they need."

Every year, thousands of Medical Laboratory Science and Medical Laboratory Technology students graduate from institutions across Nigeria. These students will eventually become the professionals responsible for producing laboratory results that guide most medical decisions in hospitals and clinics.

The problem is that many of them are preparing for that responsibility with very limited resources. For many students, learning still depends on lecture notes, photocopied handouts, borrowed textbooks, and past questions shared through WhatsApp groups. While these resources can help, they often lack structure, accuracy, and practical guidance.

Students spend years studying theory but have very few opportunities to practice applying what they learn in realistic situations. Preparing for the MLSCN licensing examination can also be challenging. There is no widely available platform designed specifically around the exam format. Many students rely on old past questions and self-study methods, making it difficult to assess their readiness before the actual examination.

The same challenge exists with practical learning. Concepts such as quality control, result interpretation, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) are essential parts of laboratory practice, yet many students have limited access to interactive tools that allow them to learn and practice these skills outside the laboratory environment.

This gap becomes even more noticeable when students begin clinical postings and internships. They are expected to apply knowledge confidently, but many have never had access to digital learning tools that bridge the gap between theory and practice.

70%+ Of clinical decisions are influenced by laboratory results
40,000+ MLS and MLT students across Nigeria
₦0 External funding received to build Mediva

We believe access to quality learning resources should not depend on a student's location, institution, or financial background. Every laboratory science student deserves the opportunity to learn, practice, and prepare using modern tools. That belief is what inspired the creation of Mediva.

The Solution
Mediva — The Platform
Built for Laboratory Science Students

Mediva is a free AI-powered learning platform created specifically for Medical Laboratory Science and Medical Laboratory Technology students in Nigeria. We built it because we experienced the same challenges ourselves — limited learning resources, scattered study materials, and few opportunities to practice outside the classroom. Google Gemini powers the platform, helping students learn, understand concepts better, and gain confidence in their professional training.

1

Learn — Study & Exam Preparation

Helping students learn smarter
CBT Practice Platform Students can prepare using timed CBT exams designed around the MLSCN examination format. Gemini provides explanations and learning support to help students understand their mistakes.
Smart Flashcards Interactive flashcards help students revise important topics and strengthen long-term retention using modern study techniques.
Digital SOP Library A searchable collection of laboratory procedures and learning resources that students can access anytime from their phones or computers.
AI Lab Copilot A Gemini-powered learning assistant that helps students understand concepts, answer questions, and learn at their own pace.
2

Analyze — Practical Learning Tools

Connecting theory with practice
Laboratory Result Interpretation Students can explore laboratory values and receive educational explanations that help them understand the meaning behind results.
Quality Control Learning Tools Students can practice quality control concepts and gain a better understanding of laboratory standards and procedures.
Clinical Practical Simulations Interactive laboratory scenarios allow students to practice clinical reasoning, result interpretation, and laboratory procedures in a safe learning environment.
3

Connect — Student Community

Learning together
Student Forum A community space where students can ask questions, share experiences, collaborate, and support one another throughout their academic journey.
Past Questions Archive A growing collection of past examination questions and study resources contributed by students and organized for easier access.

Why We Chose Gemini

Medical Laboratory Science is a highly technical field that requires accuracy, critical thinking, and a strong understanding of scientific concepts. We chose Google Gemini because it helps us deliver personalized learning experiences, provide educational support, and make complex laboratory topics easier for students to understand. Gemini powers the intelligent features across Mediva and plays a central role in how students learn, practice, and grow on the platform.

Result Interpretation Support Gemini helps students understand laboratory values by providing educational explanations and guiding them through the interpretation process.
Quality Control Learning Gemini assists students in understanding quality control principles, laboratory standards, and common quality management practices.
AI Lab Copilot A Gemini-powered assistant that helps students understand concepts, answer questions, and access learning support whenever they need it.
Smart Flashcards Gemini helps generate and improve flashcard content, making revision more interactive and personalized for students.
Exam Learning Support When students answer questions incorrectly, Gemini provides explanations that help them understand the concept rather than simply memorizing answers.
SOP Learning Resources Gemini supports students in understanding laboratory procedures and provides additional explanations to improve comprehension.

The Team & Closing
Five Students.
One Problem. One Solution.

Every member of Team Mediva is a Medical Laboratory Technician student. We built this platform because we have experienced the same challenges faced by students across Nigeria — limited learning resources, scattered study materials, and few opportunities for practical preparation. Mediva started as an idea between students who believed there had to be a better way to learn, prepare, and grow professionally.

The Platform Is Ready for Early Testing. The Need Is Real.

Mediva was built by students who understand the challenges of laboratory science education because they experience them firsthand. With no external funding and no institutional backing, the team has developed a working prototype and is preparing for its first round of student testing. Our goal is simple: make quality learning tools accessible to every Medical Laboratory Science and Technology student in Nigeria.
